“Most connectivity problems have a straightforward cause. My job is to find it, explain it in plain terms, and put it right.”
Joe — Mendip Tech

Fully insured & independent

About Mendip Tech

One person, from the first survey to ongoing support.

Mendip Tech is an independent, one-person business. The person who surveys your property is the person who installs the equipment, and the person who answers the phone if you have a question afterwards.

That means impartial advice on what you actually need, no call centres, and someone local who understands the realities of rural connectivity: thick walls, long distances and lines that are not always reliable.

  • The same point of contact throughout
  • Impartial recommendations, with no pressure to over-specify
  • Business-grade equipment with up-to-date security
  • Remote monitoring and support after installation

Common questions

Questions I am asked regularly.

Which areas do you cover?
The Mendip Hills and the surrounding Somerset area, including Wells, Cheddar, Shepton Mallet, Wedmore, Axbridge, Frome, Glastonbury and the villages between. If your village is not listed, please ask — larger jobs and holiday-let work can be covered further afield.
The copper phone line is being switched off — what do I need to do?
The UK's traditional phone network (PSTN) is being retired, with services due to close by 31 January 2027. Calls will run over your broadband connection instead. You keep your existing number, it can be set to ring your mobile as well, and a single internet phone is often much cheaper than a landline-only package. See Internet Phones for details.
Do I legally need PAT testing for a holiday let?
Holiday lets and small businesses have a duty to keep electrical equipment safe under regulations such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. There is no fixed legal interval — testing is risk-based — but a dated record of testing is the standard way to demonstrate you have met that duty, and is often requested by insurers. See PAT Testing.
Can Starlink be used as a backup rather than a main connection?
Yes. It can be configured to sit on standby and take over automatically if your main connection fails, so you are only paying for cover on the days your primary provider has an outage. See Starlink & LEO Internet.
I have just moved, or I am mid-renovation, and have no internet — can you help short term?
Yes. I can supply a temporary system on a daily or weekly basis to keep you online until your permanent connection is in place. See Temporary & Emergency Internet.
